When exploring Manhattan in Marvel Super Heroes, you could open the big map via a push of the button, but instead in Marvel’s Avengers you have to rely on the small cluttered mini-man located in the corner of your screen, which is certainly inconvenient.įor me, the best part of playing through a Lego game is being able to share the experience from start to finish with my son.
#Lego avengers pc review series
Having so many freely explorable areas is fantastic and is a step in the right direction for the Lego series however, the exclusion of an open map is an odd choice, especially when hunting down objectives in Manhattan. Unlike Lego Marvel Super Heroes having just Manhattan to explore, Marvel’s Avengers has Manhattan, Asgard, Barton Farm, Malibu Mansion, the S.H.E.I.L.D base, Sokovia, Washington D.C and South Africa. While Lego Marvel’s Avengers features the tried and tested gameplay formula, with some added double-team take-downs to boot, one of the games biggest ploys are the eight open-world/hub areas, each with its own activities and unlockables. But never fear for other gaming format owners, as the aforementioned content are timed exclusive, so it will be arriving on PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One at a later date.
#Lego avengers pc review Ps4
If you’re a PS3 and PS4 owner, Lego Marvel Avengers will also feature Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War via free DLC. However, in a short mission/story telling form, this outing also includes Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Thor: Dark World and Iron Man 3. Rather than a unique story like its predecessor, this outing takes the tales from the lives of Avengers Assemble and Age of Ultron being the main focus. If you’ve seen any of the Avenger related movies over the past few years, then it will feature in Lego Marvel’s Avengers.
Since then we’ve had many a Lego game, but with 2016 in its early days we’re greeted to the latest Lego/ Marvel videogame mash-up with Lego Marvel’s Avengers. And the pleasing LEGO sound effects are still there, so it does have a nice sound department. Two years have passed since the release of the awesome Lego Marvel Super Heroes, an original story with a huge roster of characters and a huge Manhattan open-world to explore with plenty of secrets and side-objectives. It mixes the existing themes with original music for a more fitting soundtrack. It uses many of the themes of the movies, and while they are not great that's not really this game's fault. Trying out the different characters is fun, and the game will constantly encourage you to do it. It's pretty action-based and the scenes are pretty varied, with chasing scenes in vehicles to big battles versus a lot of characters. It's always better to play this game in multiplayer mode, it makes it easier and way more fun than playing it alone. The main heroes have very different abilities and it's cool to use them for team specials. You destroy stuff, build more stuff with the lego pieces you destroy, and complete missions. Gameplay: It's pretty much the same as all the other LEGO games before this. It's not entirely pleasing to the eye, but it doesn't look terrible either. The open-world looks alright, even though it's an odd mix between realistic locations and lego characters. Graphics and visuals: There's little to no innovation in the visual aspect of this game. It's not a substitute for the movie, but it's ok for the younger kids. It helps a little with the setup for the main storyline of The Avengers, but it makes it more reduced. It features scenes from individual-character movies like both Captain America, Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3, among others. It features a more varied cast of characters and an original story.
If you're a Marvel fan you should just go for the LEGO Marvel Superheroes game. But in general lines, it's more of the same. Now the world feels much more open, with alternate paths and more freedom to choose your adventure. In the older games like the first LEGO Star Wars games, exploration was more streamlined. LEGO Avengers is indeed more of the same, kinda. There are way too many LEGO games right now, so it can be a little repetitive if you want to play them all. This means that you shouldn't expect to see the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man or X-Men here. Keep in mind that even though there are over one hundred characters to choose from, at the time of release there were some troubles with the licenses. You can think of it as even more of a kids' version of the movies.
